Our blockbuster is coming folks. May 10th is the official first day of the Vancouver Art Gallery’s summer exhibition Vermeer, Rembrandt and the Golden Age of Dutch Art: Masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum. The permanent collection of Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum is home to a bevy of beauties, and they are bringing 120+ highlights from the Dutch Golden Age to our little gallery wings. Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals…the ticket line-ups will no doubt be intense to catch a glimpse. If your annual membership is set to expire in the upcoming months I would suggest renewing early. Come May 1st their admission and membership rates are going up, just in time for the costly feat of a dose of Dutch.
If you have a frock and baubles to show off pre-wedding season, the gallery has just the ticket for you. On May 9th they will be rolling out the red carpet for their Highnesses Princess Marilène and Prince Maurits van Oranje-Nassau, van Vollenhoven at the Dutch Masters Ball. Instead of their regular Members-only openings, the gallery is opting for a bit of black tie fanfare fit for royalty. Dutch Michelin star chef Robert Kranenborg is the mastermind behind the formal dinner, while live music will be in thanks to The New Dutch Academy from The Hague. Anybody have a ticket and need a date?
The exhibition runs May 10 to September 13, 2009. The Dutch Masters Ball will be held on May 9, beginning with a Champagne reception at 5:45pm.
