How does your garden grow?

Pepper cressAnother summer started is another year I forgot to submit my name to snag a community garden plot! But this year I decided to do the next best thing and put together a small potted garden full of greens, to boost our summer salads into the slow food stratosphere. Pepper cress and lettuce seeds planted just last weekend have already sprouted, while the cherry tomato plant doubled in size and the arugula starter shot up. Not bad for partial sunlight, containers and next to no gardening knowledge retained from my childhood on a hobby farm. I am waiting in anticipation for the first sign that the green onion seeds were successful…and I wonder if it is too late to start radishes. They would surely complete the salad bowl!

Oh that’s exciting! I take pleasure in seeing things grow, especially food! My boys and I planted seeds this spring and I can’t wait to harvest some of what we grew later this summer!

I love to see the little seedlings reaching for the sky; even better, is the harvest of sweet vegetables warmed by an afternoon sun.
